The new trailer for Top Gun: Maverick is here. The long-awaited follow-up to the classic '80s movie Top Gun sees Tom Cruise reprise his star-making role as ace fighter pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, and it releases next summer.
The new trailer isn't exactly heavy on plot, but there's no question that it captures the triumphant spirit of the original movie. Maverick is now a training officer, and there's a new group of recruits he needs to get into shape and into the air. There's tons of spectacular aerial action, as Maverick shows us why he's the best, and we defy you not to punch the air by the end of the trailer. Check it out below.
This trailer follows the first promo, which Cruise revealed at San Diego Comic-Con last summer. Top Gun: Maverick is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously directed another Cruise film, Oblivion. The movie also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris. It releases in theaters on June 26, 2020.
Kosinski has previously spoken about how the film will deal with the realities of combat and the military in an age of drones and advanced technology. "It's just a different world now, so you can't remake the first movie. It has to adapt," he said. "The Navy is very different now than it was in 1986. Back then, they hadn't been in any war for 15 or 20 years at that point. Now, the Navy's been at war for 20 years." For more, check out everything we know about Top Gun: Maverick.
